So far, I have always taken it for granted that laws of a given country would apply to everyone who is currently in the country, be it citizens, permanent residents or visitors. If different or special laws were in place for a certain group of people, I would consider it discrimination.

I am not referring to illegal immigrants looking for work.

Foreign visitors to the Netherlands will be banned from the famous coffee shops where cannabis is sold. One of the reasons is pressure from other European governments opposing the idea of citizens of their countries traveling to the Netherlands to buy pot.

It doesn’t matter what your view on cannabis is. That is immaterial here. I don’t think that any government in the world should be able to directly or indirectly enforce laws of its country beyond its borders. As long as coffee shops are legal in the Netherlands, they should be open to every adult person, resident or visitor. I think this new Dutch law might not stand in court.

When we create a topic or poll, we have 238 different target countries to choose from. Only 44 of them have homepages.

Have you ever chosen a target country that does not have a homepage? I have been wondering what happens, if we do so. Will our content go through? Or will we get an error message? My guess is that it will go through, but only show up on our personal page, not on any homepage, which will make it more difficult to get replies, since only members who visit our page will come across it.

I'm about to find out. I think it's worth an experiment. I'm going to choose Cook Islands as target country for this topic.

I don't expect it to show up on any homepage, but think it might show up on the New Zealand homepage because of the Cook Island's association with New Zealand. It could also show up on any other English-language homepage. Let me know, if you see it anywhere. I'll look for it too.

Update: I was wrong. I tried twice to submit the topic with Cook Islands as target country. Both times I got an error message. The second time I was eventually redirected to the New Zealand homepage. I now think that it was (and possibly still is) Toluna’s goal to create homepages for all countries listed as target countries. But I can very well imagine that it must be very difficult to get enough members from certain countries on board to make it worthwhile.

Je ne crois pas que ce soit un sécret, puisque c’était annoncé comme info sur les sites des États-Unis et du Canada, et cette information était disponible pour chacun qui a visité l’un de ces sites (pages d’accueil). En outre, d’autres membres de ces pays l’ont déjà mentionné. Cependant, je ne l’ai pas vu posté sur les pages d’accueil d’autres pays.

Toluna a lancé une version beta. Les membres américains y sont déjà intégrés. Vous pouvez essayer à accéder à ce site en choisissant les États-Unis d’Amérique comme configuration du pays et de la langue (coin inférieur gauche). Si vous y réussissez, dites-moi si vous l’aimez.

Moi je trouve qu’il y a quelques améliorations. Par exemple, la liste des suivis est en ordre alphabétique. On peut voir qui a voté sur les votes rapides à moins qu’un membre choississe d’être anonyme. On peut choisir d’être informé par e-mail, s’il y a des réponses aux opinions ou bien s’il on a reçu un cadeau (giftie).

Malheureusement, il y a un gros inconvénient. Il n’y a plus de bonus de popularité du contenu (points pour opinions ou votes).

Vous me trouvez encore en cliquant sur mon nom d’utilisateur, comme d’habitude. Je vais choisir la France comme pays ciblé pour ce sujet d’opinion, qui ne sera pas visible sur le nouveau site.
