Yesterday's front page of the Sun provoked outrage with its incessant mocking of new England football manager Roy Hodgson. Over 100 complaints were made to the Press Complaints Commission, and reports circulated of school children with speech defects suffering increased levels of bullying. How much longer can the Murdoch-owned tabloid, already under heavy fire because of its alleged involvement in phone-hacking, continue to peddle its poison? Has the time now come to target those who advertise in it, to ensure that it suffers the same fate as its unlamented sister paper, the News Of The World?

Twenty years ago, Norman Lamont destroyed his party's reputation for economic competence in the space of a single afternoon. Now George Osborne, with a poorly-planned and dismally-defended budget, has again effectively rebranded the Tories as the "nasty party", imposing extra taxes on pensioners and food in order to finance tax cuts for fatcats. Has he blown the Tories' hopes of being re-elected to office? Or can he and David Cameron restore trust in their party before May 2015?

A student who admitted posting racially offensive comments on Twitter about footballer Fabrice Muamba has been jailed for 56 days.

Swansea University student Liam Stacey, 21, from Pontypridd, admitted inciting racial hatred over remarks about the Bolton Wanderers player, who collapsed during a FA Cup tie at Tottenham.

A district judge in Swansea called the comments "vile and abhorrent".

I saw the tweets just after they were published. They were VERY nasty and potentially (since Muamba's still alive) libellous. A 56-day sentence sends a clear message that such behaviour won't be tolerated.

Some journalists, however, feel the student is being treated unfairly as he's likely to be expelled by the university as well as being jailed.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

well he did not need to say that but it was his own fault
