do u think ban on bull-fighting in spain is correct ?

Now that Spain’s northeastern region has proclaimed curtains for bullfighting, hopefully the rest of the country – and those emulating it across Europe and Latin America – will follow suit. Bullfighting in any form – whether wounding the animal by jabbing javelins into its back or inflicting on it an agonising death – is barbaric, a man-to-beast version of ancient Roman gladiatorial games where people killed each other simply to delight spectators. Carrying
on with this hideous form of supposed entertainment means negating advances in civilisation since. It turns cruelty into spectacle, which modern civilisation is turning away from.
Those mourning the loss to Spain’s cultural heritage should situate the bullfight in its entire context. Conquistadors, inquisitions, slaves and colonies too could be counted as part of Spain’s past. No one argues for these to be enshrined as living cultural entities. Why bullfighting then? The ‘cultural artefact’ argument is archaic. Why must a pointless form of gruesome violence – where both animals and human beings are severely hurt, if not killed – be preserved forever? Locals having become largely indifferent, clearly the spectacle only provides tourists some thrills.
It’s time Spain took a leaf out of Britain’s book. Fox-hunting was once an integral part of Britain’s rural fabric, driven by agrarian logic (to control farm pests) and Britain’s characteristic
style and pomp, its county elite thundering over fields and stiles, chasing terrified foxes.Yet, modern Britain stepped over its own past to abolish an anachronistic pastime. The point of culture is – it’s always evolving. It needn’t get stuck in precedent that’s violent, disturbing and morally dubious. Spain had Ernest Hemingway waxing eloquent on the machismo and drama of the bullfight. A century later, we should be more evolved.
