The onion is the basis for creating aromas in a dish which is reason enough for most dishes to start with chopping onions.

When cutting onions, it’s hard to avoid tears, but why do we actually cry? Experts explain that during onion cutting, enzymes in their bark enter the air and change their composition and begin to irritate the eyes. Because the eyes are connected to the nervous system, it responds by shedding tears. Here is one way to make things easier and stop the tears.

To avoid crying while cutting onions you can put them in the fridge for an hour. Low temperature will slow down the activity of the enzyme that produces irritants. This is what I do and it is very helpful.

Let's say good bye to crying in this case :)

Good thought! I have also heard that you can peel the onion underwater, but that would make the knife slippery so I have not tried this trick. Reply
