Has computer technology created more jobs than it has eliminated?

A lot of jobs have been eliminated by computer technology/automation. Have more jobs been created than lost due to computer technology?

Yes I believe they have created many more jobs however in the current economy I do not believe they have been able to bypass layoffs either

Yes, I believe they have created more jobs then they have eliminated. But I do not believe that computers have actually simplified our lives. We also seem to be loosing the personal contact of communication to each other - it is good to actually meet friends at their hose and spend time really talking to them. Email is great when you cannot do that - but face-to-face is much better.

While it's true that computer technology has eliminated many jobs, it has also created a slew of others, especially in the computer repair industry and software development. Computers may be able to do a lot of things, but there are two things they can't do (at least not cost-effectively) yet. They can't fix themselves, especially when it's the hardware that's broken, and they can't automatically write new programs. Until computers become artificially intelligent, there will still be a huge demand for those jobs.
